Frank Wilson, musician-drummer-songwriter-producer and teacher has become the drummer of choice for studio work, club dates, tours, and clinics. During his tenure with legendary jazz organist Jimmy Smith, Frank has played all the major clubs from New York's Blue Note to Emeryville's Kimball's East. No stranger on the tour circuit, Frank has played in Poland, Russia, West Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Bermuda and Japan. Frank has contributed his talents to several recordings including his effort with Jimmy Smith's Prime Time on Fantasy / Milestone Records. His co-release on his own label, DeGrand Records & Tapes, is Soundsphere. Over the years Frank has developed a reputation as a sensitive and reliable performer backing up dozens of singers, musicians, performers: Jon Hendricks, Les McCann, Dave Benoit, Eddie "Clean-Head" Vinson, Joe Liggins & The Honeydrippers, John Mayall, Linda Hopkins and many more artists. He studied privately with David C. Smith (Billy Moore School of Percussion) and Clarence Johnston. After many years of touring places like Strasbourg, Nice, Geneva, London, and Cambridge, Frank came back to Los Angeles to work as an independent contractor in the local music scene. He is currently working with the Eric Ekstrand Ensemble (a 10 pc. 'little' big band) based at the world famous Derby in Hollywood, California. The Ensemble has recently released a CD, Spiked Heel Stomp. Frank is continuing his craft with more study and devotion to move more into the world of academia and scholarship, music production, theatre and music editing.
